Your next chapter
From executive to entrepreneur, with a clear next step.
A successful career can coexist with a call to build something of your own. Give that call attention and a plan. You can begin learning about ownership before making an irreversible change.
Understand what is calling you forward
Separate what you want to create from what you want to escape. Frustration with a role can be real without telling you which business to build.
Name the problem you want to solve, the people you understand, and the experience you can bring to their situation.
- Who do I want to serve?
- What problem do I understand well enough to investigate?
- What would make this next chapter meaningful beyond a new title?
Test the problem with real people
Speak with potential customers about how they handle the problem today, what it costs them, and what they have already tried. Listen for evidence rather than approval of your idea.
Choose a small experiment with a clear learning goal. A defined pilot can reveal more than months spent polishing a brand before anyone has used the offer.
Bring your family into the plan
Discuss time, uncertainty, and responsibilities with the people affected by your decision. Identify the boundaries you need and the conditions that would make a transition responsible.
Review employment commitments and obtain appropriate professional advice when decisions involve contracts, finances, or obligations. A general leadership framework cannot settle those individual questions.
Build the skills ownership requires
An executive role may come with teams, systems, and a familiar market. A new business may ask you to find customers, shape an offer, and make decisions with less support.
Identify the gaps honestly. Seek experienced mentors, practice the skills, and build relationships with people who will challenge your assumptions.
Define your next decision
Set a review date for your experiment. Decide in advance what you need to learn before you continue, change direction, or pause.
